# What is the preferred means of communication used for?

Preferred means of communication means which modes you would like to accept communication from the uConsult platform.

If you select Email and SMS, you will receive a SMS Notification for verifications and reminders
and emails communication for prescriptions, referral letters, sick notes, etc. that are sent to you by your Healthcare Provider.

For Healthcare Providers, it lets you know when appointments are booked and when patients are in the waiting room
